Things to do and see
There are many places to visit and things to do around West Cork. Below are listed a few of the places you might like to visit:
Goleen
A lively little village with a couple of pubs and two small shops where all essentials can be found.
Barleycove Beach
This is just a few minutes drive away and must be one of the best beaches in Ireland. This Blue Flag beach is great for kids and adults alike with plenty of space it is a favourite spot for sunbathing in the summer and bracing walks at other times of the year.
Crookhaven
A quayside village which is a great place to stop for a drink and something to eat on a sunny day or after a long hard day at the beach. Very popular with the sailing fraternity.
Mizen Peninular
Goleen in located on the Mizen Peninular, the most south-westerly point in Ireland. This area is best known for its links with Marconni as it is from here that he made the cross atlantic telegraph links to America.

An award winning Maritime Museum and Heritage Attraction, this authentic all-weather experience is a must-see with its spectacular location on high cliffs with swirling Atlantic Ocean tides. From the Car park and Visitor Centre, the Signal Station is a ten minute walk along the path, down the 99 steps and across the Arched Bridge, the Mizen is famous for its wildflowers and sightings of wildlife, dolphins, whales, seals, gannets, kittiwakes, choughs – the bird migration north-south flight path is just a mile off shore.

In the centre of an area of outstanding beauty, Schull is one of the loveliest villages in West Cork. The prevailing southwesterly winds come over more than two thousand miles of open sea and the air is marvellously clear and clean. The safe and welcoming harbour, the many islands off-shore and the Atlantic Ocean beyond provide an excellent base for water sports. There is also golf, tennis, pony trekking, a planetarium, fine restaurants, good accommodation, a boatyard and a peninsula rich in archaeology. It is wonderful country for walking and cycling and an excellent area for holidays, winter and summer.

Five miles on from Schull lies the picturesque village of Ballydehob. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants including the well known and renown Annie's Restaurant, Antonio's a lively Italian and the Wok Inn for eat in or takeaway Chinese. For a bit of fun you can take a pedelo out in the calm waters around the 12 arch bridge.
Further afield
The market towns of Skibbereen and Bantry are worth a visit if you are looking for more shops and places to visit including Bantry House. A day trip around the Ring of Kerry is well worth planning into your stay with stunning scenery and wonderful places, such as Kenmare, to stop off.
